The Pembridge Good Neighbour Scheme – a free service supporting people in the community, run entirely by local volunteers
WHAT IS THE GOOD NEIGHBOUR SCHEME?
The Good Neighbour Scheme aims to support the community by getting together a team of volunteers to help people who are experiencing difficulties, in their own homes. The service is free and run entirely by Pembridge volunteers. The Scheme is not intended to replace carers, and volunteers are not able to provide personal care. WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THE SCHEME? Our volunteers are happy to visit anyone who needs help and lives in the Parish of Pembridge, particularly people who are: elderly disabled isolated single parents We look forward to hearing from you, either if you need our help and support, or if you would like to volunteer.
HOW CAN THE SCHEME HELP YOU?
Essentially, by just doing things that good neighbours do for each other. Below are a few examples of how the scheme might help you:
- Fetching prescriptions and library books
- Shopping and doing errands
- Practical tasks at home e.g changing a bulb
- Help with forms or letters
- Walking or feeding pets
- Giving information about other services which you might need
- Occasional light gardening work
- Regularly calling in for a chat
WHO ARE THE VOLUNTEERS?
The volunteers are local people who are prepared to give up their time to help people in their community. They may be people you already know. So that you can feel confident about your safety, all volunteers have been C.R.B. checked and carry identity cards. HOW DO YOU ARRANGE FOR A VOLUNTEER TO VISIT YOU? If you would like a volunteer to visit you, please call us on 07779 122499 between the hours of 9.30 a.m and 5.00 p.m Monday to Friday, to arrange a visit. You may have to leave a message, but we will get back to you as soon as possible
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
Would you like to become a volunteer for the scheme? If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and helping members of our community, please contact us on 07779 122499. You will be able to do as much or as little as you like and you can specify the kind of help you are prepared to give and the times which are convenient for you. We will ask you to complete a simple registration form and a C.R.B form which takes very little time and is free to volunteers.
